ISE Matchmaking Event: Finding the Next Generation of AV Talent
The audiovisual (AV) industry is an ever-evolving field, and attracting new talent is crucial to its growth. At Carillion Communications, we are committed to bringing fresh energy into our team. Occasions like the matchmaking event, AVIXA Xchange, at ISE 2025 in Barcelona provide the perfect opportunity to connect with the next generation of AV professionals.
What is AVIXA Xchange?
AVIXA Xchange is a global platform designed to connect AV professionals, businesses and newcomers to the industry. It fosters collaboration, shares knowledge and provides networking opportunities that help individuals and companies thrive. One of its key initiatives is the ISE Matchmaking Event, which pairs companies with young professionals eager to start their AV careers.
As Andrea, who joined Carillion through the initiative last year, continues to flourish, we are excited to see who will be the next rising star in our team.
Seeking New Talent
AVIXA Xchange kicked off with an insightful presentation from Joseph Valerio, setting the stage for a day of productive networking. Helen, Carillion's Senior Project Coordinator, led the interviews alongside Sam, meeting seven promising candidates. Most were from Spain, with two from Italy, all keen to jumpstart their careers.
Each candidate had 10 minutes to speak with our team, providing a snapshot of their skills, experience and career ambitions. Carillion was one of 12 to 15 companies participating, each looking to find and nurture fresh talent across Europe. Before the event, candidates submitted their CVs, allowing our team to assess their potential fit within Carillion's dynamic environment.
Who Were the Candidates?
The young professionals we met shared a common trait: a strong desire to learn on the job rather than pursue further academic studies. Many were practical, hands-on individuals who preferred being out in the field rather than behind a desk—exactly the kind of enthusiasm and energy that drives the AV industry forward.
Given the limited number of AV-specific courses available, most candidates had developed transferable skills from large, related industries like telecoms. Their experience with wiring, software setup, and other technical aspects made them strong contenders for AV roles. What mattered most to us was their enthusiasm for technology, engineering and problem-solving.
What's Next?
Following the interviews, Helen and Sam will present their recommendations to Carillion's Managing Director. The short-listed candidates will be selected for a second interview, and the successful candidates will be offered apprenticeships at Carillion Communications.
Helen summed up the experience perfectly: "It is wonderful to experience the enthusiasm and passion these young professionals have for the AV industry. Their eagerness to learn, adapt and bring fresh perspectives reinforces the importance of fostering new talent. We are excited to see how they will contribute to the future of AV."
At Carillion, we believe in investing in future talent. ISE Xchange was a fantastic opportunity to connect with young professionals eager to build their careers, and we look forward to welcoming a new apprentice who will bring fresh ideas and energy to our team.
