The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) is the government department that distributes Britain’s aid funds to developing countries.

Location | Global

Solution

An incredible total of 29,795 video collaboration meetings were completed over six years. FCDO operate in 72 countries, so effective communication facilities are vital. Video collaboration was introduced to link the UK offices and has since expanded to an international network with over 160 systems. A bridging system was introduced to allow up to 36 simultaneous connections, with up to 8 sites having a visual presence at meetings.

Result

FCDO’s investment in this global network has resulted in benefits to the users individually and to FCDO as a worldwide organisation.

Video collaboration saves almost £180 per call by avoiding travel and subsistence costs, freeing up productive time and strengthening relationships through greater visual contact.

“Over a year, 4,084 calls between a company's offices and aid bodies saved 735 meetings and 303 tonnes of carbon emissions”.
